Mental Health Program
Program Manager - Paula Braimbridge

Focussed Psychological Interventions Program
This component of the Better Outcomes in Mental Health program is designed to provide GPs with support from psychologists in treating people with a mental health disorder. The service is particularly suitable for low-income earners.
Our psychologists can provide the most appropriate Focused Psychological strategy included under the Better Outcomes in Mental health Care initiative. There is a small co-payment required by the patient.
These time limited, evidence based strategies include:
• Psycho-education (including motivational interviewing)
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
• Cognitive interventions
• Relaxation strategies
• Skills training
• Interpersonal therapy

Who can refer to this service?
As of November 2006, all referrals to this program require a GP Mental Health Care Plan (Item 2710).
GPs are no longer required to have completed Level 1 training or to be registered with Medicare Australia to refer under this program.
For more information and/or referral forms, please contact the Program Manager: Paula Braimbridge on 9208 9512.

Can Do

The Can Do initiative is about creating an opportunity for GPs to work together with mental health and drug and alcohol services, to improve access for patients by improving communication and collaboration between services. It provides a relaxed atmosphere to work through some of the scenarios that GPs face in handling patients that often don't "fit the box" of referral criteria.

About OGPN's Mental Health Program

The OGPN Mental Health Program commenced in October 1999.

A major achievement has been the drawing up of a Memorandum of Understanding between Osborne GP Network, North Metropolitan Health Service, the Australian Mental Health Consumer Network and Perth Central Coastal Division of General Practice. The MoU was originally produced in November 2001 and updated in July 2004. It aims to provide a reference source and guide for implementing consistency in GP liaison and shared care, for use by Clinic staff, GPs, clients and carers.

Please click on the link below to download the updated version of the MoU.
