E-Health
The new eHealth Practice Incentive Payment was officially released by DoHA in March 2009. The PIP eHealth Incentive was announced as part of the 2008-09 Budget, and will commence from August 2009. The incentive aims to encourage use of electronic health systems in PIP practices. The PIP eHealth Incentive will replace the existing PIP IM/IT Incentive and the PIP Electronic Decision Support Incentive, which commenced in August 2008.The PIP IM/IT Incentive will cease from August 2009.

This project will introduce the new e-Health Incentive to encourage general practice to move to using Electronic Decision Support Systems through consolidating the PIP IM/IT and Electronic Decision Support Incentives. The e-Health Incentive would be incorporated into the PIP payments with a payment level of $6.50 per Standardised Whole Patient Equivalent (SWPE). Payments will be capped at $12,500 per practice per quarter, up to a maximum of $50,000 per year.

More information on the current and upcoming PIP incentive including guidelines and application forms can be found at the Medicare Australia website.

Practice Incentive Program (PIP)
Medicare Australia’s PIP includes incentive payments for general practices that meet certain IM/IT targets. The Medicare Australia website provides information on the PIP and the IM/IT initiatives.
