Healthy Weight Program

The aim of the Healthy Weight program is to support primary health care professionalsin the promotion of healthy eating and physical activity.

PNMML delivers an intervention program for children with weight concerns and their families, Healthy Families for Happy Futures (HFHF).

Continuing Professional Development - Managing Childhood Obesity
This Category 2 Activity presents NHMRC guidelines on managing overweight and obesity in children and adolescence. Practices interested can contact the Healthy Weight Program Manager.

Healthy Lifestyle Talks
PNMML’s Nutritionist is available to present educational talks to parents and staff at P&C meetings and other gatherings. 

The presentation is free of charge and covers:

  • Healthy lunches and snacks
  • Reading food labels
  • How to choose a healthy…
  • Raising active kids
  • Being a healthy role model
  • And much more!

All families receive free resources including the Lunch Right Menu Planner.

Promoting Eating & Activity for Children’s Health (PEACH)
PEACH is an interagency committee with representatives from Perth North Metro Medicare Local, Cities of Joondalup, Wanneroo and Stirling, Child and Adolescent Community Health, West Coast District Education Office, Heart Foundation, The Cancer Council WA, WA School Canteen Association (Inc), Australian Red Cross, Meerilinga, Active After-school Communities and Nutrition Australia. The committee was established in 2003 in response to the increasing incidence of childhood obesity.

One of the successes of PEACH is the annual PEACH Showcase held in September. Parents, teachers, community health nurses, canteen staff and other health professionals are encouraged to attend the showcase and hear about local community and school initiatives in healthy eating and physical activity, and meet leading health professionals in this field.
PNMML is Accredited by The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards until March 2014.
