Virtual Babies
The core of the Program is the use of a virtual baby. The RealCare Baby II is one of the latest infant simulator models. The baby will cry at random, at unpredictable times 24 hours a day. The baby stops crying when an ID key is touched to the baby’s back, and will then require some attention: a nappy change; feeding; burping; or rocking. This could take from a few seconds to 35 minutes approximating the amount of time needed to care for an infant. On occasion the baby may cry for up to three minutes to replicate a fussy baby. The baby will also cry if held in a position it does not like or if it is roughly handled or abused.
Students also participate in a one hour class conducted by a GP to discuss sexual health and reproduction. This program is offered to students in years 10, 11 or 12 and can accommodate up to 15 high schools per year, located in the Perth North Metro Medicare Local.
